CGIT NEWS:

The Westminster CGIT group has had a very busy winter season thus far. On Dec. 7th, we presented our annual Candlelight Vesper Service in the sanctuary and were able to raise $725 for the Ontario CGIT Association through a freewill offering during the service. We closed off December with our annual Christmas party on the 13th in the Ladies' Parlour. At our Christmas party we exchanged gifts with our secret Santas and also brought in our stockings full of toiletries for the street people served by Centre 507. This year we made 20 stockings.

We started back to our weekly meetings on Thursday Jan 8th with a fun week and then we started our Mission Study which is a part of our annual program. This year's mission study is "Taking Care of God's Creation-an environmental focus" and the material is found in the Partners publication from PWS&D. So far we have had three guest speakers come in to talk to us, Anu Bose, Michelle Richardson and Mark from a store called "ARBOUR" in the Glebe. All three speakers brought a different focus and outlook to our group on how to live with and respect God's wonderful creation and gift to us, Earth. We will finish our Mission Study with the Badge presentation night on Feb. 26th and everyone is invited to this evening.

In the middle of our mission study, we took time on Sat. Jan. 24th for our annual Toy'n'Book sale that normally helps us raise funds for our annual winter camping weekend, however, this year, the funds raised (over $600) are being used for the provincial trip to Canada's Wonderland on May 30th. We are not going to be going winter camping but will be having a fun-filled sleepover at the Church on the weekend of Feb. 28th-Mar. 1st.

Looking forward, we have our Camp Kalalla Swim-a-thon at Carleton University on Friday Feb. 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and everyone is welcome to come out and swim or just come and count laps and support us in that way. The weekend after, Feb.28-Mar.1 will be our sleepover at the Church and our Mission Study Bread Sale is on Sunday Mar. 1st during Coffee Time after Service. All donations of breads/muffins will gratefully be accepted and all funds raised will be going to support PWS&D in their mission endeavours.

Whew!! What a busy and fun time we've been having! We want to thank everyone for all of their support and want to say that it's been greatly appreciated. On a closing note, we'd love to see more girls ages 10-16 come join us in the Lower Hall on Thursday nights 7:00-8:30 p.m. See you there!!!

CGIT is Canadian Girls In Training

CGIT is a Canadian Christian programme for girls between the ages of 11-15 who meet weekly from September to May for activities based on the 4 fold purpose.

"As a Canadian Girl In Training Under the leadership of Jesus it is my purpose to:"

And thus, with His help, become the girl that God would have me be.

CGIT encourages girls to build on their strengths and develop leadership skills. The distinctive CGIT knot on our uniform tie is a visual reminder of the four parts highlighted in our programme.

Cherish Health:

Developing a healthy respect for body and self.

Seek Truth:

Discovering values and issues relating to lifestyle.

Know God:

Studying God's relationship with us.

Serve Others:

Experiencing the joy found in giving to others.

WESTMINSTER'S CGIT Group meets every Thursday night from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the church. We have a large, active group of girls with an excellent leadership team. All are welcome anytime!

For more information about CGIT, please contact Carol Ann Joiner

CGIT is alive and well at Westminster Church and we would like to invite you to be a part of this exciting group this year! We are a group of girls ages 10-15 (grade 5 & up) who get together each Thursday night from 7-8:30 pm to play games, sing, work on projects, create crafts and develop great friendships.

Our CGIT group meets at 7:00 pm in the Lower Hall of the church. Dress is casual.

Please invite all your friends to come with you too! All new-comers ages 10-15 years (grade 5 & up) are always welcome at any time.

Registration:

Registration is $50 per girl for the year. This covers our registration fees with the Ontario CGIT Association and some to cover the cost of our own group events. Cheques can be made payable to 'Westminster Presbyterian Church" with CGIT as the subject line.

This is your CGIT group - we want you to have a great time together so bring all your wonderful ideas and programs that you would like to share and do. We have some ideas up our sleeves too - such as a Hip Hop Dance Night, The Christmas Vesper Service and winter camping at Camp Kalalla.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the Lower Hall of Westminster Church. Come join in the fun and share in the fellowship!

Enthusiastically, Carol Ann Joiner "Chicklet"
